Almost two years after graduating college, I can finally say that I am making some waves in the world. If you are a dedicated follower of my blog (which I barely post anything to because I am always TOO busy) then you remember my last post when I spoke about how I thought a red carpet was going to be laid out for me after I graduated college. Well, guess what? That red carpet wasn’t laid out for me but ever since I realized it wasn’t, I started creating a red carpet for myself.
How did I start creating a red carpet for myself… you ask?
First, I moved my tail away from Savannah, GA, where my career was not taking off the way that I thought it would. The job market was extremely horrible in Georgia, and even though I started my own company, I realized that clients I wanted to retain were not interested in my company due to me not having enough experience in the PR industry and I also wasn’t 100 percent ready to start a company until I received guidance under highly experienced professionals in the industry.
After realizing that life wasn’t working for me in Georgia, I put in a two-months notice at my apartment, quit my job at the Country Club, gave away my cat to a loving family, put my pride aside and moved back up to DC to live with family for a few months until I got on my feet.
I moved back to DC not knowing what would happen next… I was taking a risk. Is moving back to DC a good move? Will I get my foot in the door of my career? Am I good enough? I questioned myself so much when I was trying to chase a dream that lived in my mind because I’ve never witnessed anyone in my life make the choices that I was making, but luckily, everything worked out for the best.
Within three weeks of living in DC, I landed my first PR job as an assistant for a national honor society. After four months of working as an assistant, I received a raise and a promotion to a PR Specialist. Finally, after five months of working as a Specialist, I ended up landing a job as a Communications Analyst at a global communications company that brings in billions of dollars in revenue. Three come ups in under 10 months… I have no doubt that I am blessed and God is the only reason that I’ve gotten to this point in life.
All in all, getting to this point was not easy and I still have so much to learn and many more levels to climb, but for now on I will shoot you tips that I’ve learned to help you get to where you want to go in life as well.
Please leave blog topics that you would like for me to write about in the comments below, and I will also try to do more video blogs and interviews with successful entrepreneurs, high-level professionals and artists as well.
